Both Academy teams finished the weekend with 3 wins and 1 loss.  A good start to the season for both programs.

E15

The 1st CSSHL Showcase weekend had the Elite 15s heading to Penticton for 4 games.

Vs. Edge School

The first started ugly, down 4-0 after the 1st period BWC struggled to in all facets.  The E15s had some push back in the 2nd and third with the game finishing 6-3 for Edge.

Vs Northern Alberta Xtreme

The first ever matchup with the new CSSHL team proved most exciting.  The very fast and talented Xtreme got out to an early 2-0 lead.  Holden Katzalay scored to make it 2-1 after the first.  Going into the 3rd it was now 3-1 Xtreme, the game started to shift BWC's way and Christian Buono scored 2 goals including the tieing goal with less than 30 seconds left in the 3rd.  BWC struck early in overtime, Buono with a highlight reel move on the Xtreme defenceman then quick pass to Ryan Stack for the one timer game winner.  E15 goalie Nick Lee made several great saves late to ensure the win.

Vs OHA

After being down 1-0 early BWC battled back to win 3-2. Goals from Katzalay (2), and Sweeney.  Jonathan Holloway with the win in net.

Vs POE

BWC dominated an undermanned with several top '01 AP players in their lineup.  BWC won 6-0 with goals from Stack (2), van der Made, Katzalay, McIntosh, and Stokes.

"I feel the weekend was a huge step in the right direction. Even though there were a few moments where we looked shaky, the team showed great character and desire as we battled back stronger than before. Overall, the teams bond became more solid and we came back with 3 big wins." said E15 forward Kazeem Bapoo

U18

vs Banff Hockey Academy

BWC U18s dominated winning 5-0 and outshooting Banff 69 to 18.  Goals from Nolan Welsh, Ethan de Jong, Ben Poisson, Colten Kovich, and Evan Walls.  Bradley Cooper with the shutout in net.

Vs Edge School

A tight game until the end the U18s lost in overtime 2-1 despite outshooting Edge 45 to 30.  Brady Chin with the lone goal.

Vs OHA Edmonton

The innaugural matchup with the new CSSHL team went all BWC's way.  An 8-1 win with 64 shots on goal.

Vs SISEC

Another tight game went to overtime but this time BWC came out on top with Angus Crookshank scoring the game winner.  Crookshank also scored the 1st of the game followed by singles from Devan Purhar and Jacob Lacasse.  Again shots swayed heavily in the U18s favor 52 to 30.  Nico Lopes with the win in net.

"It was another step forward for us this weekend. It’s always a beautiful trip and special to go to one of Canada’s jewels. The boys overcame injuries and some very physical hockey. To lose one in overtime and then win the last game in overtime showed that we are learning perseverance and a belief in each other. More importantly we had a great time together as a group.  There were many laughs and a great vibe in the dressing room, on the bench and on the ice. What impressed me most was how we celebrated the success of the team together. That’s part of being a brotherhood." said U18 Head Coach Maco Balkovec

This weekend will see both teams in action at Burnaby Winter Club - E15s take on Delta at 7:45pm on Saturday and the U18s playing OHA Edmonton at 9:30am on Sunday morning.
