2 year Academy Player ready for BCHL next year

Township of Langley, BC (Friday, December 4, 2015) – The Langley Rivermen are pleased to announce the commitment of North Vancouver native Angus Crookshank (1999 born) to the Rivermen roster for the 2016-17 season.

Crookshank is a 5 foot 10, 170 pound forward at Burnaby Winter Club U-18 Prep Hockey Academy in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL). In 27 games this season, he leads the team in scoring with 21 goals and 14 assists for 35 points. In the 2013-14 season, he won a gold medal at the Western Canadian Bantam “AAA” Championships with the North Shore Winter Club.

“Angus is an overall well-rounded guy. He is a good two-way player with a good skill set, can really skate, and is very smart. In the past two years, he has made a great effort to get out here for practices and be around the team and has showed how badly he wants to be a Rivermen. He is everything that we look for in a player,” said Rivermen Head Coach and General Manager Bobby Henderson.

For Crookshank, signing with a Junior “A” team has always been a goal of his for quite some time.

“It really is an honour to commit to a great franchise like the Rivermen. I have been practising with them for a few years now and have enjoyed every minute of it. Bobby and Kurt do a great job of running the program and I know the players like playing for them,” said Crookshank.

The commitment is extra special considering how close to home he will be come 2016-17.

“My mom was sure happy when she heard the news as she won’t have to travel far to see me play,” chuckled Crookshank, “it will be a nice feeling to have my family and friends so close and I know they are excited to watch me play on a regular basis.”

Crookshank says Rivermen fans can expect to see a player who will give it his all every time he is out on the ice.

“I am a guy that will work just as hard defensively than I will on the offensive side of the puck. I take pride playing in all situations whether that be on the power play or penalty kill and will be happy in any role the coaches put me in,” Crookshank finished.

The Rivermen have one game this week, which is an away game in Salmon Arm on Saturday, December 5 at 7:00pm.The Rivermen’s next home game is ‘Teddy Bear Toss’ night vs. Vernon Vipers on December 12 at 6:00pm. Fans are encouraged to bring their new or gently used stuffed toys and throw them onto the ice after the Rivermen’s first goal. Stuffed toys will be available to purchase by donation on the concourse with all proceeds being split between local Christmas Bureau’s.http://www.langleyrivermen.com/news/angus-crookshank-commits-to-ri
