The Spokane Chiefs announced today that the Western Hockey League club has signed BWC Hockey Academy forward Matt Leduc to a WHL Standard Player Agreement.

Leduc, 16, registered 15 points (1-14-15) in 26 games with the BWC Elite 15s team during the 2015-16 season, while also adding three assists in five games with the BWC Prep team.

“Matt is a great person to be around and developed his game this season,” said BWC Elite 15s Head Coach Leland Mack. “He is very eager to learn and is always looking for feedback to improve. Spokane will be a great place for him to start his junior career. Having him and Gianni Fairbrother signed and hopefully playing in the WHL next season is great for the BWC Hockey Academy, the CSSHL, and especially the Elite 15s Division.”

The Richmond, BC product was drafted by the Chiefs in the second round, 31st overall, at the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft.

“We are thrilled by Matt’s commitment to our organization,” said Chiefs’ General Manager Tim Speltz. “Matt is a big defenseman who we expect to become an impactful player in the Western Hockey League.”

The 6-foot-5, 194-pounder netted one assist in four post-season games for BWC at the 2016 CSSHL Championships.
