The Burnaby Winter Club Rascals Program is the largest learn to play hockey program in British Columbia and is focused on providing a safe and fun environment for kids ages 3 to 6 to develop their skills and grow. Not only do they learn valuable hockey skills, but our Rascals get to socialize and make tons of new friends as they become confident in a new sport.
We place the kids into one of five groups according to their age and skill level so that everyone is on the same page and can progress at similar speeds. This way we can build confidence and make sure no one feels left out.
The Rascals program runs twice a week with two intakes: October and January. Each practice is 45 minutes long and there are no early morning ice times making it convenient for parents and kids alike.
You do not need to be a member to join the BWC Rascals program; however, many of our Rascals go on to play in our MHA and some even further on into our Academy. Rascals participants are required to know how to skate before signing up as we do not offer independent skating lessons.
Registration for Rascals begins on May 1, 2024, and closes one month after the first day of each intake. Priority is given to those who register for the full season - if you are looking to register for Winter Intake only, you must wait until registration opens in November as it is dependent on the amount of open spots. Late registrations may sign up for a prorated rate minus the number of sessions that have been missed. Please contact the office for more information.

Winter Intake: Wednesday, January 8, 2025 to Wednesday, March 8, 2025
Holidays (No Session): Saturday, October 12 (Thanksgiving) / Saturday, February 15 (Family Day)
Rascals 1 - Brand new to hockey with at least two levels of skating lessons (must be able to stand and glide on their own).
Wednesday at 3:50 p.m. and Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
Rascals 2 - New to hockey with more skating experience.
Wednesday at 4:35 p.m. and Saturday at 12:45 p.m.
Rascals 3 - Returning Rascals player or equivalent experience.
Wednesday at 5:20 p.m. and Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
Rascals 4 - Returning Rascals player comfortable with puck control.
Wednesday at 6:05 p.m. and Saturday at 2:15 p.m.
Rascals 5 - Returning Rascals player very comfortable with puck control.
Wednesday at 6:50 p.m. and Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
Inside Edge will assess your player to place them in the appropriate level for their skill and age.
